“A Mom’s Apron” (c. 1958) is the emblem of the dutiful housewife during an era of well defined gender roles. Warm aromas would fill the home as mom prepared the pot roast, meat loaf, or brisket with a side of succotash. “Honey I’m home!” was the common refrain as the breadwinner would announce his arrival and cue the meal.
