“Patio Furniture” (c. 1957) popularity coincided with the burgeoning suburban lifestyle of the 1950s. Families were eager to furnish their backyard space with a casual dining area from which to survey their perfectly manicured lawns. Hotdogs, watermelon, and corn on the cob were enjoyed under the umbrella, which unfortunately, provided little cover from the gnats and skeeters.
